The Genius of John Mayer

John Clayton Mayer is an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer. He is a blue's guitarist at heart. Though Mayer started his career mainly performing acoustic rock, he began moving towards the blues genre that had originally influenced him as a musician. I started listening to Mayer fairly late in my life so far. It's only been a few years but those few years was enough for him to influence my musical taste drastically. The guy truly is a genius.

Eric Clapton: “John Mayer is phenomenal. I don't think so he knows how good he really is.”

He is a phenomenal guitar player. He breathes blues! He has collaborated with the guitar Gods. Eric Clapton, B.B King, Buddy Guy etc. I mean, getting such high praise from someone like Eric Clapton speaks volumes.
He is an amazing live artist. His live versions are more intense, more musically deep and his voice has a completely different aura. He stands out from the crowd of modern musicians in this regard. His rendition of "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room (Live In LA)" is hands down one in my top 10 live performances by any musician ever.

His songwriting skills have progressively improved over the years. This man is now one of the best songwriters of our generation. Albums like Continuum, Battle Studies have acquired multi platinum status and it's not hard to see why. Everyone know him for being controversial but his desire to show his critics that he can back it up is commendable. After some issue with the media, he locked himself in a studio where he recorded Born and Raised; one of his most honest and pure records, lyrically.

His versatility is something pretty unique in this generation. He started from pop rock, moved on to the blues and even some country albums. Room For Squares, a pop rock record and also his first record, sold millions of copies worldwide and was positively reviewed. That album put him on the map worldwide and he has not looked back ever since. Continuum (2006) and The Search for Everything (2017) are hands down his best two albums and indeed in my top 5 albums of all time. The soul and feel he brings to his lyrics with a healthy sprinkling of his easy on the ears blues riffs, it's not difficult to fall in love.

John is an underrated musician in this era of pop culture. However, true music enthusiasts continue to regard him as an icon of the modern generation and worthy of being named in the same bracket as some of the legends of blues music.
